24 H Bol d’Or: Wójcik Racing Team opens the new endurance season.

‘We are going for the best positions and we are perfectly prepared’ – says Grzegorz Wójcik, the head of the team. It’s the third full season for the team which, as the only one in the World Championship, fields two motorbikes.

Endurance, which is a long distance race, is the hardest race in the world. Endurance World Championship consists of two 24-hour races and three shorter ones lasting 8 hours each. Wójcik Racing Team is facing the 24- hour Bol d’Or race which opens the season this Saturday on the Paul Ricard circuit in France. First the riders are going to  sprint to their motorbikes. The two squads of Wójcik Racing team are: Formula EWC with Yamaha #77 and Superstock class with Yamaha #777. There will be three riders for each motorbike changing during the race as the fuel runs out, which takes usually about fifty minutes of riding. After that time a rider gets to the pit stop, tires are changed, motorbike is filled up and the next rider continues the race.

Formula EWC
The very powerful  Yamaha #77- mounted squad will appear in Formula EWC. Very well known riders from the previous season like Gino Rea and Christoffer Bergman will take turns on the motorbike together with Axel Maurin, a French rider debuting  in Wójcik Racing Team.  Axel Maurin is a very experienced long distance rider and Champion FIM Endurance World Cup in 2017. – ‘We are going for the podium. The most important thing in this race is to finish it but we are going to achieve something more. We have great riders as well as mechanics  and already quite a lot of experience. We are ready for this.’ – says Grzegorz Wójcik.

Formula EWC is the category in which you can enhance the performance of the motorbike. The motorbikes are equipped with the system of quick change of wheels.

Superstock
Here on board Polish names: Marek Szkopek – last year’s Polish Champion in Superbike class, Kamil Krzemień ,  Artur Wielebski and an Austrian rider – Philipp Steinmayr – ‘I joined the Superstock team in this year’s Oschersleben race where we stood on the podium. After this successful experiment we decided that I will take part in the full season. In Superstock there are basically serial motorbikes. Only some minor modifications are allowed and the wheels have to stay homologated, hence a good strategy for changing them during the race is needed.

FIM EWC Endurance World Championship starts on Saturday 21^st September at 3 p.m. and finishes exactly 24 hours later on Sunday afternoon.  At the start we will see 56 teams from all over the world.
