Wójcik Racing Team is delighted to announce they will enter the FIM World Supersport Championship with Swedish rider Christoffer Bergman.
Wójcik Racing Team is well established in EWC, currently the team is one of the front runners with a third place in the formula EWC category standings, and fourth place in the Superstock FIM World Endurance Cup.
Christoffer Bergman is currently racing with Wójcik racing in the formula EWC class, in which he scored a strong second place at the Bol dòr 24 hour race in September, together with team mates Gino Rea and Axel Maurin.
The 29 year old from Säffle in Sweden, who works as Öhlins test rider, enters the World Supersport Championship with an extensive racing background. In 2016 and 2017 he participated in WSS, in 2018 he was racing in EWC stk class, where finished 3rd. Currently, Christoffer holds second place in EWC Bol d’Or 2019 superbike class and he won the 2019 FIM European Superstock 1000 Champion.
– It is a deliberate decision, we’ve had enough time to get to know each other very well with Christoffer and I understood the great potential of this rider – says Grzegorz Wójcik, team’s principle. – In the past season Christoffer was unequaled on European arena and won Alpe Adria Cup in Superstock1000 category. His performance in endurance racing is exceptional, Chris understands the concept of team working and shares his valuable experience. In 2020 season Wójcik Racing Teams’ priority is the world championship series, where the team is aiming to provide the highs level of entertainment to the supporters all around the globe. We already know that two EWC rounds: 24H Le Mans and Bol d’Or, overlap with SSP rounds. We do not however make any decision regarding the potential replacement of Christoffer just yet.
–It is going to be an intense season – says Christoffer Bergman. – The arrangements to the start in SSP are in progress since few months, I am happy we could prepare such a plan. I am looking forward to the beginning of the Supersport season, but simultaneously I am up for a fight for a FIM EWC podium. After two rounds #77 team is third in general classification and we are aiming to maintain that position. Keep your fingers crossed, I will do my best to make upcoming season exciting.
In 2020 Wójcik Racing Team will become official Yamaha supported team, getting the technical support from Yamaha Europe and Yamaha Poland. The 2020 World Supersport season starts in Australia at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on 28th of February – 1st of March 2020.
