Young but strong line-up for Wójcik Racing Team in Le Mans

The Polish team will field no fewer than four young champions this weekend in the 24 Heures Motos, the FIM Endurance World Championship season opener in Le Mans.

In France, two of Poland’s most promising young riders will take on the challenge aboard the #77 Honda CBR1000RR-R.

Milan Pawelec and Mateusz Molik are reigning Polish champions who were already fighting at the front of the Superstock class in last year’s EWC season.

Pawelec returns to FIM EWC action as the defending European Moto2 Champion, while Molik is set to make his debut in the European Stock Championship together with Wójcik Racing Team later this year.

They will be joined at Le Mans by two Spanish riders making their endurance racing debut: experienced and highly decorated 26-year-old Oscar Gutierrez from Barcelona, and 18-year-old Javier Palomera from Valencia.

The team will also benefit from the support of two-time MotoE World Champion Jordi Torres, who serves as a reserve rider for Honda’s factory squad.

Jacek Molik, a multiple-time Polish champion and an experienced instructor and motorcycle racing official, will once again take on the role of Team Manager.

60 Teams, 4,000 Kilometres and a Clear Target

A total of 60 teams will line up for the 49th edition of the 24 Heures Motos in Le Mans, including 46 entries contesting the full four-round FIM EWC season.

Wójcik Racing Team has been competing in the championship for nearly a decade, regularly fighting at the front and securing podium finishes.

The #77 crew will compete in the Superstock class across all four rounds: April’s 24 Heures Motos in Le Mans, June’s 8 Hours of Spa in Belgium, July’s Suzuka 8 Hours in Japan and the season finale, the Bol d’Or 24-hour race at Circuit Paul Ricard in September.

Grzegorz Wójcik: “We are setting the bar very high”

“We are fielding what is probably the youngest rider line-up in Le Mans, but at the same time one made up of some of the most exciting rising talents in the sport, so we are really thrilled,” said team owner Grzegorz Wójcik“With such a strong line-up and excellent support from Honda, it’s only natural that we set our targets very high. Milan and Mateusz already showed front-running pace last year.”

“Javier is making his EWC debut, but he won the Spanish Superstock 1000 title on a Honda last year, while Oscar is one of the most experienced, successful and versatile riders in the world,” he continued. “He has fought at the front in Moto2, MotoE, as well as Superbike and Supersport, and he has just won the opening round of the Baggers World Cup alongside MotoGP, so we know he is fast on any bike he rides.

“All of this means that this weekend we want to fight for the top three again, both in the race and in qualifying, and once more bring as much joy as possible to Polish fans.”

The opening round of the FIM EWC will get underway in Le Mans on Saturday at 15:00 local time and run for 24 hours. During the race, the leading teams will cover close to 4,000 kilometres, making pit stops roughly every hour for rapid rider changes, tyre swaps and refuelling.
