The Polish squad once again completed the iconic 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans, widely regarded as the toughest race of the FIM Endurance World Championship.
Sharing the #77 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, the quartet of Mateusz Molik, Oscar Gutierrez, Javier Palomera and Jordi Torres covered an impressive 798 laps — a total of 3,343 kilometres — over the course of the 24-hour race.
The team had already made a strong impression in qualifying, securing valuable championship points by claiming third place on the Superstock class grid.
After an initial run by young Milan Pawelec, who is preparing for further tests ahead of defending his Moto2 European Championship title, the experienced Torres took over on Saturday morning. During qualifying, the Spaniard also served as a reserve rider for Honda’s factory team.
After the start, Palomera was battling for the lead in the Superstock class, but just 30 minutes into the race he was among several riders caught out in a crash at the first chicane, caused by fluid spilled moments earlier by another bike.
Dropped to the very back of the 60-team field, Wójcik Racing Team refused to give up. Showing strong pace and determination, the #77 crew fought their way back to an impressive 19th overall and ninth in the Superstock class, securing valuable points for the world championship standings.
The second round of the FIM EWC season will take place in June at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Before that, the team will contest the opening round of the Polish WMMP Championship in May at Poznań, followed by their debut in the European Stock Championship, where Wójcik Racing Team will field Mateusz Molik and Bartosz Bambecki.
“We proved once again at Le Mans that ‘Poles can do it,’” said team principal Grzegorz Wójcik. “After a strong qualifying, we were aiming for a podium finish, and our pace showed we had every chance of achieving it. Unfortunately, Javier’s crash on fluid spilled moments earlier ruined our race after just a handful of the nearly 800 laps we eventually completed. But we never gave up. The whole team showed tremendous fighting spirit, turning what was almost a hopeless situation into valuable championship points. Ninth place in the Superstock class is a solid result, and our pace highlights the strong potential we have for the upcoming FIM EWC rounds. Huge thanks to the entire team, all our partners and suppliers, and of course our incredible fans.”
